Hanafi’s journey with PETRONAS began as a sponsored student at Ohio University, U.S.A where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. Upon graduation, he joined PETRONAS Penapisan Melaka Sdn Bhd (PPMSB) 29 years ago, and since then Hanafi’s career has been in Downstream Business.

In 1999, he was seconded to ENGEN Refinery in South Africa where he held various roles such as Combo Operation Manager and Field Maintenance Mechanical Manager. Hanafi returned to PPMSB five years later as the General Manager of Production and was promoted to the role of Senior General Manager of Plant (now known as Malaysian Refining Company Sdn Bhd). In 2015, Hanafi was appointed as Head of Operations at PETRONAS Refinery and Petrochemical Corporation (PRPC) where he was the key driver for the overall business and operations readiness at Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) assets.

Hanafi currently serves on the Boards of Pengerang Terminals (Two) Sdn Bhd, CEFS Pengerang Integrated Complex, PRPC Water Sdn Bhd, PETRONAS Technical Solutions Sdn Bhd and PETRONAS Global Technical Solutions Sdn Bhd.
